Abstract

Starting from the significant increase in alcoholism among women, the factors that may be responsible are considered: intolerance of the role traditionally assigned to women, conflicts inherent in sexual issues, imitation of behaviors traditionally considered masculine (masculine prostration), and depression. Based on the similarities found in all six cases investigated using Henry A. Murray's Thematic Apperception Test at the Harvard Psychological Clinic, the following were also found: a stenic attitude towards taking a stand in the face of life's demands; poor relationships with others due to feelings of inferiority. Furthermore, guilt can take the place of direct aggression towards others, which can sometimes become self-destructive and even lead to death
