Abstract

The purpose of the observational method aimed at children is to learn about their characteristics, problems, lines of development, and, in short, the lifestyle they are forming. This knowledge must then be discussed, compared, and explored in depth, and a common language is needed to ensure that what has been learned can be passed on. No problem ever arises as a factor in isolation within a child's personality. During theoretical meetings and guided practice with nursery staff, it was very often found that the concept of the child's ‘personality unit’ was not taken into account: the training therefore focused on raising awareness among staff of the importance of understanding each child's lifestyle. This helped to bring to light the motivations and dynamics that drive staff to behave in a certain way, highlighting behavioral fictions, compensation mechanisms, and feelings of insecurity regarding observation techniques and intervention methods
