Abstract

This work explores four themes of modern psychotherapy in relation to Individual Psychology. In particular, it analyzes the relationships between clinical psychology, psychotherapy, and psychiatry, highlighting the historical evolution of the discipline and the need for specific training in the practice of psychotherapy. It also addresses the personal motivations for practicing psychology, with particular attention to the affective and cognitive dimensions that concern the psychotherapist. The author also discusses the issue of professional ethics, emphasizing the risks associated with personal ideology, the structure of therapeutic systems, and their misuse. The problem of nosography is also examined, comparing the Adlerian view of the uniqueness and unrepeatability of the individual with the contemporary approach of the DSM-III, highlighting the need to use a common language to define different forms of disease and the importance of studying stress disorders to investigate exogenous etiological factors. Finally, the evolution and complexity of contemporary psychotherapy are highlighted, linking it to theoretical and practical reflections of Individual Psychology
