Abstract

The article and the book by E. Ginot report a up-to-date and critical review of neurophysiological research and evidence regarding the concept of the unconscious. This today represents one of the theoretical-technical cornerstones of psychodynamic psychotherapy. The conception in favor of a continuum between conscious and unconscious functioning emerges that goes beyond traditional psychoanalytic thinking. Considering how the deep dynamics of the process of change mainly concern the unconscious aspects, we observe how unconscious habits often exceed the intention and motivation.
Enactments, intended as representation and en-action of unconscious emotional functioning, favor new hypotheses on consolidated concepts such as resistance and transference and countertransference mechanisms.
These evidences appear usable and very fertile for the Individual Adlerian Psychology that identifies the articulation in the clinician between Lifestyle and Therapeutic Style, in the interactions of the therapist and patient and counter attitudes as the main tool of change
