Abstract

In this paper, I will present a case of a “second generation” adolescent. The central point of the clinical case concerns the construction of the client’s identity complicated by the distance of the parents and client’s cultural contexts. In the coming years, most of the world’s psychotherapist will be influenced by the concept of culture and transcultural constructs, because our societies are changing in this direction.
In working with second generation individuals, it is recommended that clinicians closely analyze the contexts in which their patients grew up and are developing. This case is a demonstration of the importance of clinician’s attention to both, the patient’s inner and outer world, the present and the past, the subjective and collective experiences.
