Abstract

Through an overview of the main basic concepts of Adlerian theory, the author highlights how the theme of “fantasy,” understood as the creative energy inherent in every individual, is a constant element in human development. This element is necessary for humans both to overcome natural human inferiority and to structure the defenses necessary to safeguard self-esteem. Fantasy therefore seems to be a fundamental element in the structuring of neurotic symptoms as well as, in a pathological way, psychotic symptoms
