Abstract

The article presents several contrasting theories regarding the relationship between technological progress and the social system and its impact on psychological well-being. It mainly describes E. Fromm's view on the alienation of humans from their deepest needs in highly industrialized societies and on ways to promote a “healthy” society by cultivating love and mutual respect. The different theories on love by Fromm and Freud are explained
