Abstract

What is the relationship between symbolism and resistance? According to Adlerian doctrine, the use of psychotherapy allows doors to be opened, counteracting the censorial thrust of resistance and opening gaps in the barriers of logic and rationality. In this regard, the article addresses the theme of symbols as mediators between what is latent and what is manifest, serving the individual in the construction of languages and channels of communication through dreams, fantasies, and hypotheses about the future. Symbols, which are mainly individual and partly universal, only make sense when placed within a finalistic logic. The discussion develops with the aim of explaining the case of a 29-year-old woman suffering from depressive neurosis
