Abstract

This paper explores, through the analysis of clinical cases, the change in the social role of women and its impact on psychosexual issues. Using Adler's concepts of inferiority complex and virile protest, it highlights how the transformation of female roles, due to industrialization and urbanization, affects women's mental health. The emergence of new psychosexual symptoms appears to be related to cultural growth and social awareness, outlining two modes of relationship between role evolution and symptomatology: the first consisting of an analysis of emerging symptoms, and the second of insight into pre-existing symptoms. It concludes that the redefinition of these roles may contribute to a revision of psychological terminology
