Sibling rivalry is a complex psychological phenomenon influenced by family dynamics and specific childhood experiences. This study analyzes the causes and manifestations of sibling rivalry, outlining a psychodynamic approach that highlights the importance of the quality of family relationships. Based on 40 clinical cases of subjects in their developmental years, it emerges that rivalry manifests itself mainly in contexts of conflict, where one or more children seek to obtain the attention and affection of their parents. The results suggest that children's psychological problems are often related to unequal protection dynamics and environmental factors, such as maternal hostility and the influence of external parental figures. This analysis underscores the importance of early intervention and psychosocial support for families to prevent the onset of behavioral and relational disorders
