Abstract

Murray's Thematic Apperception Test explores the intellectual and emotional orientation and personality of the subject, as well as the various conflictual situations that have modified it. As pointed out by Bellak, in this test, perception is interpreted in a dynamically meaningful way (apperception), which allows us to understand the specificities of the environmental situation, self-identifications, and the overall situation of the subject. Parenti and Pagani's Adlerian interpretative hypotheses of the test have been reworked by the entire Center for Applied Psychology Studies in Turin, so that, in this sense, the test can be read in a teleological key and as a tool for exploring lifestyle, allowing themes dear to the school, such as family constellations, to be highlighted. It should not, therefore, be considered an anthology that ‘violates’ the free associations typical of dynamic psychology, but should always be used with reference to the precise guidelines of these authors, which will allow the detection of archaic and archetypal symbolism, keywords, and returns to typical situations, while stimulating free associations. This diagnostic tool is therefore also a psychotherapy tool and, as such, must be used by a trained professional
