MATRIARCHY AND PATRIARCHY:THE INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOLOGY AS A POSSIBLE INSTRUMENT OF PASSING FROM THE ANTITHESIS TO SINTHESIS

Abstract

The former matriarchal organization of the society suggested by Bachofen and subsequently by other Authors, had considerable incidence on the Adler’s thought; he utilized this to fight against the stereotypy of masculine superiority and of the feminine inferiority based on biological factors and to support his idea of equality between sexes. This work is a collection of evidences for supporting the Adler’s position particularly through the analysis of some myths and tragedies apart from the references to Authors that shared the Bachofen’s position even if with different purposes
