Abstract

In his novel, the writer Jules Renard reveals all his story of ill-treated child; it is neither a realistic tale, nor a piece of literature for childhood, but it is an autobiography in which the author uses his early memories to tell the vicissitudes of Poil de Carotte and not to self-commiserate, but to look forward. The creative ability of Jules Renard, nourished by the social feeling, has allowed to overcome obstacles, weaknesses, to find alliances and to be successful. The autobiography is the way in which the author takes care of himself, through the only observation and using only one instrument, the analysis
