Abstract

"In our country, we are still disturbed by old feelings of distrust, we still fear foreign domination and the greed for domination of fallen potentates. We feel, however, ready to court the idea of cooperation among men and to make sacrifices for it. For us as a people, defeat is not narrow. The laurel of victory, which decorates the forehead of the strong commander, does not awaken our grief. For long years we were the infatuated ones, while now we have become aware. Behind the deep affliction and misery of the present flashes, to our innocent people, the star of the new realisation: never have we been more miserable than at the summit of our power. The aspiration to power is a fatal mirage that poisons the coexistence of men!
