THE PATH TO AUTONOMY IN ADOLESCENCE: A CASE OF DIFFICULT SEPARATION

In clinical work with adolescents should be kept in mind that parents can represent both a threat and a resource for the child's developmental needs. If parents prove to be an obstacle to the growth path it’s necessary to help them accept the paths of defining their children's identity so that they become resources forthem and not obstacles. It’s difficult to think of positive evolutions if the remain anchored to their positions. Particularly complex parents must be accompanied to accept the idea of an ad hoc path, parallel to that of an adolescent child, aimed at understanding the support role they can play to favor a harmonious path towards adulthood. These attempts are not always successful; this case study is an example of these difficulties
