Abstract

It implies the end of the reproductive function but, at the same time, it offers women the opportunity to look into their own past and future. For 75-80% of women, it follows a post-menopausal syndrome, characterized by different syntoms vasomotor, genitourinary and neuropsychic. An important triggering factor is the psychic one. We have observed 30 physiological menopausal women and 30 surgical menopausal ones.
The interviews and the projective tests have shown:

- in the two groups we have found insecurity and emotional lability involving both free and somatized anxiety and pragmatic and perfectionist behaviour

- frequent depressive reaction at the beginning of the syndrome. However the two groups have shown a different way to live syntoms, resulting from the unconscious finalisms followed by the different lifestyles
