TRANSMOTIVATION: A PROPOSAL FOR A STRATEGY OF ENCOURAGEMENT
Keywords:
sinn des lebens, meaning of lifeAbstract
It means to provide a contribution to analysis of some fundamental concepts of Individual Psychology: the courage and its antonyms; encouragement and its use in psychotherapy; community feeling. It’s been considered appropriate to try preliminarily a definition of courage, and then face an encouragement topic: even if widely used in an undifferentiated way, it seems possible to construct as a complex and articolated therapeutic approach, especially if it benefits from the Adlerian paradigm. Here, more than a “process”, it is proposed a possible “strategy” of encouragement which implies the negative frustrations overcoming, through functional integration of motivational levels (biological, psychosocial, individual – values). This theoretical – practical model, which is called “transmotivational”, finds a lot of application fields as much in psychology, as in psychotherapy. It is useless to tell to a patient that he suffers from an inferiority feeling, hoping that just for this observation, his inadequacy disappears. At the same way, it is useless, if not damaging sometimes, propose “the signs” of courage to a person who is discouraged because they can not be used. Any strategy of encouragement, even if the “lines” can sometimes appear possible to semplify, intends to move in the crucible of a motivational maturity (transmotivation) and to a deep teleological reorientation (transfinalization). Through the experience of personal – values motivations, courage connects the social feeling and then it can become a courage in front of “the meaning of life”
