Abstract

The development of new means of communication and the widespread dissemination of access to the Internet imply an increasingly personal and complex relationship with the web. This leads to a need to question the meaning of this relationship, and the position that the network occupies within the life of the individual. At present there is no consensus on the definition and diagnostic criteria of disorders related to the use of the Internet. The boundary of what can be considered pathological becomes even more difficult to define when dealing with internet usage in adolescents. If in an adult the use of the net tends to assume a compensatory function, in the adolescent it is intertwined with the intrapsychic and relational development. It therefore becomes necessary to examine not only the changes in the construction of the concept of reality, but also the implications of the presence of the screen in the relationship between the caregiver and the child/adolescent
